What to see
The headline sights are the Burj Khalifa (book the At the Top observation deck in advance) and Dubai Mall beneath it, with its aquarium and fountain shows. But don''t stop there. Cross the creek by traditional abra to the gold and spice souks of Deira, wander the wind-tower lanes of the Al Fahidi historical neighbourhood, and see the newer icons — the Museum of the Future, Dubai Frame and the Miracle Garden in season. A desert safari, with dune driving, a camel ride and dinner under the stars, is the classic half-day trip.
Best time to visit
November to March for comfortable days; summers are extremely hot and life moves indoors. High season means higher prices and busier attractions, so book popular slots ahead, especially around New Year.
Getting around
The Dubai Metro is fast, clean and cheap, linking the airport, Downtown and Marina — buy a NOL card. Trams serve the Marina and JBR, and Careem/Uber and metered taxis cover the rest. Avoid rush-hour road traffic where you can.
Know before you go
Dubai is very safe and cosmopolitan, but it''s still respectful to dress modestly away from the beach and pool, and alcohol is served only in licensed venues. Carry some cash for the souks. Verify prices and opening hours before you visit.
