AjmanAjman is the smallest emirate by area and one of the most underrated. Sitting immediately north of Sharjah, it rarely features on the standard itinerary — which is exactly its appeal. It has a long, clean beach, a fraction of the crowds of Dubai, and resort hotels at noticeably lower prices. The restored Ajman Fort houses the Ajman Museum, worth an hour for context on pre-oil life, and the dhow-building yard near Ajman Creek is one of the few places in the UAE where traditional wooden boats are still built by hand. It makes a relaxed, affordable base close to Dubai.

Ajman is very safe and quiet. As with the rest of the UAE, dress modestly in public and respect local customs; alcohol is served in licensed hotel venues.
Ajman is a short drive from Sharjah and Dubai. There is little formal public transport, so taxis, ride-hailing or a rental car are the way to get around.
The dirham is dollar-pegged. Cards are accepted in hotels and larger venues; carry cash for the market and seafood souk.
