When to go
October to April for hiking and comfortable beach days
Ras Al KhaimahRas Al Khaimah, at the northern tip of the UAE, is the emirate for the outdoors. It is home to Jebel Jais, the country's tallest mountain, where you'll find hiking trails, viewing decks and the world's longest zipline. Beyond the mountains it has a long coastline of lagoons and quiet sandy beaches, desert dunes for safaris, the archaeological remains and hot springs of the interior, and a growing crop of desert and beach resorts popular for romantic escapes. RAK joined the union in 1972, a year after the other six. For nature, adventure and calm away from the big-city pace, it is the standout.

Ras Al Khaimah follows UAE-wide entry rules — visa-free, visa on arrival, or a pre-approved e-visa by nationality. Confirm at u.ae before travelling.
RAK is very safe. Some northern areas keep more traditional customs, so dress modestly, especially away from resorts. On Jebel Jais, follow marked trails, carry water, and check conditions before hiking in warmer months.
A car is strongly recommended for Ras Al Khaimah — the mountains, desert and beaches are spread out and public transport is limited. It is about an hour's drive from Dubai.
The dirham is dollar-pegged. Cards work at resorts and larger venues; carry cash for smaller places and rural stops.
